School Facilities

Greenwood Primary has an extensive site offering excellent facilities in buildings and outdoor space.

The classrooms are bright and spacious with high levels of equipment and  resources to complement the teaching of all areas of the curriculum- computers, listening centres interactive whiteboardsand recently the addition of iPads in every room.

We are fortunate to have a modern Primary 1 wing which not only offers two purpose built classrooms but also a central resource area suited to structured play and other practical activities.

Communal areas are also available in the form of a school library and additional classroom used for small group teaching and art activities. The premises also boast a large multi purpose hall that offers space for assemblies, P.E., school drama productions and school meals, which are cooked daily on the premises.

In addition, the large outdoor space enables the children to have access to a pond, gardening activities, a willow dome, fruit trees and bushes and the opportunity to investigate many topics related to various areas of the curriculum.

This outdoor area is also fully utilised for P.E and sports and when the weather is favourable, play at break and lunch times. Recently we have added two "Trim Trails" which provide wonderful opportunities to develop gross motor skills whilst also having fun.

Greenwood can offer parents the opportunity to avail of a child- care facility in situ. A breakfast club and after school care are organised by the Sleepy Hollow organisation, which uses a spare classroom within the school and is open all year round.

A purpose built nursery unit for children in their pre-school year is situated in the school grounds. This separate building provides high quality nursery education for 52 children in two sessions, morning or afternoon. The school is lead by the same principal as the primary school, Mrs Christine Harper, and has a staff of one teacher and one classroom assistant. There is a large, bright classroom, toilet facilities, a kitchen, quiet room and outdoor play area. Close links between the nursery and main school are established and ensure the transition to Primary 1 is a natural progression. The nursery also has access to all the facilities of the main school and grounds.

Greenwood pupils are fortunate to have access to such a wide range of facilities which are always being considered for further development and enhancement. We have installed an outdoor trim trail/playground facility to extend the children’s opportunities for physical play. We were delighted that Greenwood secured a grant for £4000 from the Ulster Bank to assist with these plans. Greenwood is one of only six schools in Northern Ireland to be successful from over 150 allpications! The PTA have supplemented this amount to enable us to purchase equipment to the value of £8000- £10,000. Curtis Cars recently presented a cheque for £875 to support our eco work. This will contribute to the purchase of an outdoor classroom. In addition, the Nursery Unit has had an injection of  cash to provide state-of-the-art outdoor play equipment and safety surface.Greenwood pupils can look forward to exciting times!

All these facilities are available for prospective parents to view. The school holds an Open Morning in December each year when we welcome visitors to tour the school, or a visit can be arranged at any time by appointment with the principal. Please avail of these opportunities to see for yourself what Greenwood can offer.
